Review: Palit GeForce GTX 1650 KalmX (Passively cooled)

In this review, we look at the Palit KalmX edition of the GeForce GTX 1650. It's a passively cooled product that was designed for users on a budget, the card breathes and oozes that. This model comes with a rather extraordinary cooler in a rather small compact design.

Not sure I understand what you mean

Just that dog.
Attaching a fan will increase the heat. While additionally lowering your GPU temp.

Fully passive just does not have appeal as it used to when you can fiddle with fans and TDP yourself
Heck I bet I can stop my GPU fans all together, underclock or power limit and still get better temps and better performance due to having larger sink than the one on 1650 CalmX.
The heatsinks aren't really bigger, because the fans themselves take up a lot of space. If you have a PC with a passively cooled CPU, an SSD, and something like a Pico PSU, you could have a 100% silent PC in a very small chassis capable of 1080p@60FPS gaming.

I understand these forums are all about "moar performance" but anyone who buys a 1650 isn't looking for a badass gaming rig. This GPU is low power, small, and silent. That's a selling point, in a sea of other 1650s (and other very similar products) that do the exact same thing as each other. I'm sure you could undervolt it a little bit to pretty much never need to worry about a fan.

Hi!

I'm looking for a silent card to improve a bit my PC (Dell Optiplex 5040 with a GT 1030, also passively cooled).

I'm not a "hard-gamer", I just want to improve a bit my system with another silent card, and it seems this Palit KalmX is the only option available, but I'm concerned about the heat.

Anyone knows if it's possible to "underclock" a bit the speed of the GPU and the Memory of this card to keep the temperature low?

I suppose that even lowering for instance a 10% of the speed of the GPU a memory it would be a lot better than my GT 1030... Is this correct?

There would be any problem doing that (apart from the obvious performance decrease)?

35fps at 1440p in Witcher 3 max settings is actually pretty damn good considering the card used. Drop to medium/high at 1080p and it should hit 60fps with ease. Not bad for a £180 but you could get an 8GB RX580 for that price if you shop around enough for a TON more performance.

The 1650 looks similar in performance to my old gtx970. Should be a really nice upgrade from a 1030.
