I'd be truly interested to see the sales figures. I believe Nvidia has crossed the line of what the general gaming public are willing to pay for an 80 series card. Especially if the rumors about a world recession looming are to be believed.
The 4080 costs more than what I payed for my 3080Ti at the height of the crypto craze... I actually thought those insane times to be exceptional, looks like I was wrong.

That is the general consensus. I mean, who is this card for? If you want the absolute best, you'll buy 4090. If you want a fast card with sensible price, you're definitely not gonna buy 4080. If you care about performance to watt ratio, you'll buy 4090 and limit it to whatever power consumption you prefer. I can't imagine a scenario in which someone would actually want 4080 for this kind of money.

Its a good question.
I'd buy one because its a step up from my 3080 and has some newer tech. Also its a direct swap and I would not need to change a thing (like a SFX PSU) on my M ITX rig.
Once there are more SFX PSU's available that can handle a 4090 I can always go down that road too.

Nice a giant increase in price, and in some games you go from 50ish fps to 70ish fps (3080-4080) on 4k, and that should make me wanna shell out 1500-2000 bucks? Don't think so, whoever buy's these cards enables these huge price jumps...
