This is just NVidia resetting MSRP for 3080. Pure cashgrab.

Where did I blame Hilbert for GPU prices? You are being ridiculous and taking this personally. I did read the review. I think it's in bad taste to give "Guru3D Recommended" badge and then use argument "well the product is good so it deserves this badge, despite the price". Many tech products are good, but price should be major factor when recommending or not recommending products to consumers.
I personally think this new card is very disappointing. +2% performance for 2x the price of original 3080 that came out 1.5 year ago.
I said 'you sound as if you're blaming', I didn't say you were blaming Hilbert himself. Why would I take your silly comments 'personally'? They weren't directed at me, were they? If anyone's being 'ridiculous' it's you sir because you seem to think it's Hilbert's job to not recommend a product on price grounds. Hilbert presents products to us, with his views about them (including his view on cost), he has expressed 'unhappiness' about graphic card prices within most of the 3000 series reviews and he has no further obligation to you or anyone else.
Price should not be a 'major factor' when recommending however I do think Hilbert has a 'duty' to express his honest views about cost within his reviews (where cost is way above expectations cost wise ie 3000 series cards). Hilbert has repeatedly expressed his frustration about the cost & supply of 3000 series graphics cards.
I completely agree with you that this card seems very disappointing v the original 3080 that was released 1.5 years ago (I bought a new gaming computer in November 2020 which included an ASUS Strix 3080 OC at £900 inc VAT). I do not think you will find any guru3d'er who isn't royally pissed by the cost & lack of supply of 3000 series cards.

People justified the RTX2000 series pricing to the extend we got the ridiculous RTX3000 series pricing.
They will do so with the RTX4000 series when the 4080 will be at $2000 minimum.
FYI if the Nvidia followed keeping the pricing/perf ratio the same (as did with GTX1000/2000/3000 series) since the release of the 8800GTX, the RTX3080 would be costing over $35000 now.
(the perf gap is around 4000% plus inflation which is around 35% over the period of the last 16 years)
Yet BOM to make the card is barely couple hundred dollars.

This card is currently on sale in the UK for £1449. That's 1736 euros or $1982. More than double MSRP of the 3080 10GB FE and £400 more expensive than a 3080Ti FE. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the AIB's - charging people more and giving them less value.

I think this is the case. They are probably regretting releasing the 3070 and 3080 cards at their launch prices. The 20xx series didn't get a great reception and until mining started to take off just before 30xx released they were treading water with share price and sales. With hindsight they probably wished they had put $200 on each.
Does this 3080 now replace the old 3080?
Nvidia said this is supposed to exist alongside the regular 10GB model. But come on, like AIBs are going to make any effort to try and get more regular 3080s made when they can make this trash.
The pricing on the 2000 series was already getting back to the old bad days of over price gouged x80 model pricing. (7xxx,8xxx,9xxx series pricing).
The 9xx series had I think the best price/performance sweet spot of that decade and I don't know if we will ever get back to those levels of sane pricing.
I paid 550$ for my GTX 980 when it came out. What a steal that card was for the time. (Until the 1060 came out 200$ cheaper. heh. Though I have never had the chance to benchmark the really memory bandwidth hungry things like forced SGSSAA between them.)
