Review: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming Z

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 08/29/2016 09:05 AM | source: | 11 comment(s)

We move from the X to the Z with the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming Z armed with 8GB GDDR5 graphics memory. The model Z is the fastest SKU from MSI, comes with extra LED functionality and the very cool TwinFrozr revision VI cooler.

I agree the shoutout is AMAZING and gives a clear and clean comparison between cards. Hopefully we can also see one for the Firestrike GPU score.

Ugh, I absolutely hate the "Gaming" "OC" modes that lots of GPU OEMS do now.

The regular Gaming model (no X or Z) will not have the backplate and configurable RGB LED light system and basic clock frequencies.

I'm fairly sure the regular version has the backplate, and the configurable RGB dragon logo on the side, but not the RGB logo on the backplate. Only the Z version has that.

In other words the regular is same as the X version, except for the clock speeds.

Nice review. The MSI products are all amazing this time around.

What I don't like is that 60 degree no fans thing. I have mine on perma 30% fan and 60% for gaming. Suits me perfectly. Wonderful designs.

I never let it on default either, my fan curve starts at 40% and ends at ~80%. I swear that to me there is no audible difference between 0% RPM and 40% RPM. There probably is one, but the fans in my case, simply cover it up so it's inaudible.
