The best thing about this GPU is cheaper GTX 1070 prices as a result. Good review as always HH, but I do have to wonder if there's really a need for this GPU when a GTX 1080 can be had for $500 with a free game or two and most GTX 1070 Ti models are almost that price at launch here in the USA today.

1070ti about the same price as some GTX 1080 cards here in UK on Amazon (about £490), not worth getting GTX 1070ti at these price points.
In terms of performance difference between 1070ti and 1080, I looked at the overclocked Timespy Graphics Score for both the Palit 1070ti vs the MSI 1080 Gaming X Plus overclocked score - the overclocked GTX 1080 was only 8% faster. 8336/7725*100 => 7.9% faster. Here's the link to the GTX 1080 result: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1080_gaming_x_plus_8g_review,34.html
Still, if they're about the same price here in the UK, then it's better to get the GTX 1080. GTX 1070ti prices need to drop.

Right? Yet before the Pascal launch AMD fanatics started hurrdurring because of the lack of HBM. There's almost as much bullshit and lack of information around this subject as there was around asynchronous compute.
When it comes to hardware architecture people like talking out of their asses something fierce.
This review makes me wonder if Nvidia ever even needed gddr5x as the performance difference is so small it looks like it's just the core speed and slight cut.

Dragging the thread off-topic and gratuitously bashing others = trolling.
