I am amazed on how well a 690 is doing at 1440p just a tad faster than a 970. Considering on how old the 690 is it still a beast of a card.

I thought AMD said they would devote some resources to fix their frametime issues... but is it my imagination or is this game optimized like crap to begin with? 54fps for the GTX 980 in 1440p, no way this game is optimized, even if the card drivers aren't either.

Let's have a look at the AMD Radeon R9 290X. As you can see if you compare with the GeForce GTX 980, the resul is close to similar, however we do see more smaller spikes. These are below 25ms though, thus not visible.
If frametimes that low give you stuttering something else up with your system.

I bet all the "980 is slower than a 780ti" people might be eating their words after the latest slew of games.
I never had any regrets coming from my 780 as Dragon Age Inquisition, Farcry 4, Dying Light and every other game I've played since launch have run at 60 frames sans supersampling.
I dont know where you have got this as all review was showing it over performed the 780TI. ( just peoples was expect more ).
But for take your words:
I bet many peoples who was think that the "290x is slower of the 780Ti" might be eating their words right now.
