Review: DeepCool Captain 240 EX

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/21/2016 08:06 AM | source: | 4 comment(s)

We test and review the DeepCool Captain 240 EX, this updated All-in-One Liquid cooling kit is very decent in performance for an AIO with a 240mm rad. These liquid cooling kits are pre-fitted with a single loop and ready to install straight out of the box. Armed with pretty nice looks and an attractive price, DeepCool managed to keep up with similar competing product.

Great article as always.
Interested in AIO for my next build (which I guess is coming after we see Zen), so the more options the better. :p
Spotted a typo on the overclock page (p.10), the load title has the wrong cpu "Core i7 3770K OC at 4600 MHz 1.3 Volts LOAD"

and a general cooling question, I feel like my 2500K idles really high at around 40c with a NH-D14 inside a CM 690 II Advanced, but I live in Israel so my ambient temp is pretty high too, around 30c nowadays
currently only oced to 4ghz at 1.2v and under stress testing with prime95 it peaks around 65c
do these sound like normal temps or am I doing something wrong?

^sounds ok @ stress temp, idle high because of ambient seems legit too, it has to be higher than ambient, can't be cooler without water loop :P

its impossible to cool below ambient even with a custom loop. Unless you have LN2 or phase change.

NH-D15S is really perfect. I don't see why I would ever move to something else.

Picked this up on sale from newegg a few weeks back. Only cost $76. Quite an improvement over the Corsair 100i I have been using. The 240EX is much quieter and keeps the cores 5-10c cooler than the 100i.
