Ah, it warms my cheap heart to read Hilbert's closing comment about no real changes since Sandy Bridge 2500/2600K. My old 2500K is still running at 4.1 Ghz and while M2/SSD and other recent innovations are sure tempting the overall cost of a new build is still a bit daunting. Was an Athlon 64 fan/OCer way back when so I'm very interested in what Zen brings to the table. Hopefully will be an interesting summer!

And if you want to be really cheap, you can even install an NVMe drive with a PCIe card and lose practically nothing, even with your old system. Same stands for USB 3.1-B and the rest.

Intel is waiting for Zen. They will continue with minor refreshes and chipset features until AMD does something to compete.
If they don't they will remove AMD from the maps and that will be bad for the economy.
Gotta understand, this new series is mainly all about the new motherboard chipset features.
Intel is mainly focused on power saving/efficiency for laptop chips. The laptop market dwarfs the PC market, so thats probably why they are not focused much on PC performance.

The laptop market is the biggest part of the PC market, but it's definitely a part of it, not a separate thing. If the Zen efficiency numbers are real (worst case scenario for AMD, same efficiency with Intel), then Zen+Vega APUs will more or less make the mainline Intel laptop CPUs obsolete.

Look! I upgraded to the 7700k for free!
Now, Intel, seriously?
WTF is this crap?
I guess they still don't care that they will have competition.
