Review: Asus ROG Swift PG42UQ 138 Hz OLED monitor

In this review, we will be putting the ASUS Rog Swift PG42UQ through its paces. The big one with an OLED panel. The panel itself is said to boast 99% DCI-P3 coverage, 4K resolution, and true 10-bit color; that's the one that you want, right?

Ordered this monitor on Tuesday. Will be delivered tomorrow. Really cannot wait! First time 4K/OLED for me. I think the size will take a lot of getting used to but I'm currently on 32" ultrawide so we'll see. Stoked!

It arrived here yesterday. It's a top class piece of kit, the only downside is when you maximise a window it will dim down a bit. It's hardwired into OLED and there's nothing you can do about it.

Otherwise, no complaints at all from me.

So this bad boy is now set up. Played a few games, tested HDR, 4K and drooled over the colours. I've run into an issue though. When I go into the monitor's menu, most of the settings are greyed out, so I can't overclock it or tweak certain settings. Google tells me to disable HDR in Windows, which I did, no joy. I also tried to update the monitor's firmware but it's already on the latest version.

Anyone encountered this issue before? I'm running Windows 11 BTW. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, I figured it out. The monitor ships in power saving mode, so by default, most of the features are disabled. So for those of you who pick this monitor up, ensure the power profile is set to standard.

Just spotted this. I'd never have been able to remember that but now you mention it, yes, the power saving mode is utterly useless and disables about 90% of the function!

I take it you're coping ok with the one 'glitch' I mentioned?
