Quixel Video Unreal Engine 4 with Megascans jungle environment

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 03/03/2015 09:30 AM | source: | 9 comment(s)

Rendered in Unreal Engine 4. Megascans is a massive online library of thousands of physically based material scans and fully scanned 3D assets. The purpose of Megascans is to provide artists with a next generation material library, ushering CG into a new era. The library is ever increasing, with dozens of new scans added every day. Every material scan is seamlessly tiled, 2x2 meters, 4-16K, HDR, and calibrated for all common BRDFs. An unprecedented range of fully separated material components have been scanned for each material, with consistent calibration across the entire library. Every asset is tiered for VFX as well as real-time use, for maximum ease of use.

Looks cartoon-like to me, not as realistic as other UE4 demos I've seen. Maybe the lighting is not as good in this demo, and I always thought lighting was the strength of UE4.

Depends on how you configure the lights.

Interesting you should say that, Chris Roberts chose to use CryEngine for Star Citizen over UR for a number of reasons, one of which he mentioned was that Unreal Engine gave everything a cartoony look which he did not appreciate so much.

EDIT: Still awesome they have made it freely available in its complete form. It going to really open its use up to so many, some of whom may get serious with it ^^

Spectacular, but cartoonish ...although avatarish.
