Quadro SLI Certification for MSI X99A Workstation motherboard
MSI is proud to announce the world’s first channel motherboard that passed the NVIDIA Quadro SLI certification, the upcoming MSI X99A WORKSTATION.
With server level design and reliable stability, the MSI X99A WORKSTATION is optimized for NVIDIA Quadro SLI and VR SLI, built for high-end content creation PCs and the best rendering efficiency. Moreover, X99A WORKSTATION adopts the unique Steel Armor and optimized PCI Express slots placement as well, to ensure perfect stability and compatibility. Steel Armor on the MSI X99A WORKSTATION has more solder points on the PCB for more strength. It also protects the PCI-Express signals against electromagnetic interference for hassle-free rendering and stability during heavy tasks.NVIDIA® SLI® technology for Quadro enables a fully optimized multiple GPU professional workstation. Professionals using SLI technology can leverage multiple GPUs to dynamically scale graphics performance, enhance image quality, expand display real estate, and assemble a fully virtualized system. In addition, through a rigorous testing and certification process, certified platforms deliver unmatched stability and compatibility. VR SLI provides increased performance for virtual reality apps where multiple GPUs can be assigned a specific eye to dramatically accelerate stereo rendering. With the GPU affinity API, VR SLI allows scaling for systems with more than 2 GPUs.
Next to the MSI X99A WORKSTATION, MSI expects a vast list of X99 and Z170 motherboards to be certified with NVIDIA® Quadro® SLI in the coming weeks, including the X99A SLI PLUS, Z170 SLI PLUS and C236A WORKSATION, which are made for animators and designers. A list of motherboards that are in the process of certification can be found below.

What I'm wondering about is that they certify mainboards for quad SLI, yet it isn't officially supported anymore?

It says quadro, so im guessing that only quadro cards can quad sli.
While id never go back to multi gpu, its pretty greedy to limit gamer cards to 2x only. Being able to pick up some cheap x60 or now xx60s, to get some extra perf in 3x sli without breaking the bank was always a great thing.
Thing is though, it stops people like me from upgrading every gen when i can just drop another card in and go sli/3x sli for 2 additional gens before upgrading.
Gotta milk that hardware.

You're perfectly right, I wasn't reading carefully enough. Says nothing about gamer cards. My bad!

The article doesn't refer to quad SLI, only VR SLI. That's 2 cards in SLI for each display - not quad SLI. I only see 3 x16 slots on the board. No one(including Nvidia) cares about 4 way SLI.
It's common sense - how many people even use 3 or 4 way SLI?
SLI with mid-range cards was never a good thing, especially 3 of them.

So we're back to splitting sli functionality between certain boards like back in the 680i days? Are they planning on making a return to the days of making boards either cfx or sli capable?
