The huge problem of those scalpers are that likely half of the PS5's sold are not even in charge by actual consumers, thus PS5 games as well as PSN services on the PS5 platform are suffering from bad sales.

Where are them PS5?
All Game stores here in Spain are out if stock and reservation only, but without a date. Just a waiting list with no time frame. Other etailers are in the same boat.

I can't say for sure but shipping retail games are also impacted by the lockdown many countries engaged. Even gaming consoles these days encourage consumers to use the digital stores instead of buying retail games. That's probably why it's out of stock, because they ship only a very little amount of retail games due to various reasons.

i know quite a few folks with PS5's bought at msrp.
but then i'm in silicon valley.
this is very gratifying for Sony and yet illustrates a potential problem/opportunity with less than 10% of new sales going to PS5
on the one hand that is incredible for a specific consumer electronics item with sales matching the early days of DVD players, but those were split between many brands to reach that volume in year 1.
on the other hand it shows the PS4 as a perfectly viable, indeed increasingly profitable model. given that PS4 and PS5 are sold at a loss at release, this is pure gold with the manufacturers cost (PS4) now below $100.
every other consumer electronics company wishes it had the foresight of Sony.
but consoles are for the most part like razors, it's the razor blades that make the money.
