A handful of previews appeared on the web showing benchmarks of the next years QuadComm Snapdragon 820-soc. The 820 scores better when compared to the 810 but on many levels need to forfeit to the Apple A9.

Especially in benchmarks that like per core performance (oh where did we hear that one before?) the A9 scores much better, the 820 takes the lead when four or more Kyro cores are actively used. We do have to mention that these are early stage tests based on enginering samples.

The Andreno 530-gpu also takes the lead when compared to the Adreno 430 in the Snapdragon 810. In browser benchmarks the A9 passes the competition by far though, Qualcomm however explains that Chrome is not yet optimized for the new Kyro based CPU cores.

The benchmarks performed by Anand are based on an engineering sample device from Qualcomm itself. That unit drives a 6.2"-display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. The Snapdragon 820 is a quad-core SoC processor with two Kyro cores running at 2.1 GHz tied to a 1MB L1 cache. Next to it it has another two cores that then run at 1.5 GHz with each a 512 L2 cache. The Snapdragon 810 has four Cortex A57 cores and four A53 cores. The SoC is made at Samsung with a 14nm FinFet fab.

It is expected that the SoC can be found in next years smartphone models like (successors to) the LG G4, HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6. It will be the first time that Qualcomm has a 64-bit SoC based on their own micro-architecture. Please see the source button link for more benchmarks.
