I was expecting this to come sooner. Unless a miracle from the NVIDIA side happens, for 2017 and at least the first half of 2018 will be Pascal/Vega. The architecture looks new in a lot of its parts. I'm not sure that the significance of the memory controller configuration is understood yet, same for the changes in cache hierarchy and the programmable scheduler. It somehow feels to me closer to a new CPU launch, than a GPU one. As for the "performance" shown, I would bet its still running the debug Fiji driver. I expect it to outlive Pascal by years, but unless AMD is really on fire with the drivers for it, it will most likely end up a bit below the Titan X(P) for the initial reviews around May/June.
As I have said before, just a 4096/64/8GB HBM Polaris at 1.5GHz would be faster than the 1080. This seems to be much, much more. It's on AMD's hands to launch with a performance driver for once. The HPC-first release will give a bit more time to the driver team, but I don't believe it will be in 2017 that we can really see what it can do.
The card is probably still running the Fiji driver, and since it's a new arch, it's probably a long way off being ready to show its true performance. Was purposely tested with a low level API. Tomb Raider is an nVIDIA game, and Deus Ex won't run that well in 4K. BF1 has issues in DX12 and some other games are still beta with their DX12 build.

If Nvidia stopped W7 driver support, then, yeah. That's the only way they could force me and many others to "upgrade".
However, we also know they will use the next-gen hardware as a cut-off point regarding os support.
On the other-hand, I will be doing my first W10 test install perhaps end of this year. It has to pass the DAW test for me to jump onboard along with a big stash of vst software.
Dont underestimate MS's ability to force people to upgrade to Win 10 against their will...

How many years will it be, before we have a decent amount of Vulkan, and Dx12 games out (and proper Dx12 games, not just Dx11 ones that have had it patched in later)
Mantle is now Vulkan, as i said, AMD done that, as they needed it to get near/beat Nvidias Dx11 performance, but when Nvidia brought out a new Dx11 driver, that even smashed that, AMD got rid of it, to Kronos, who then called it Vulkan, and got Nvidia cards to run as well, as Nvidia wouldn't touch it under AMD.
Thought Vulcan was openGL?

There is a big mistake in the article.
VEGA doesn't come from arabic (lol). It comes from Latin and it means Light.
Las Vegas = The Lights (from Spanish) lol.

Maybe Gears of War 4, can't see any use for any other api on either platform.
I've not saw anything from Vulkan that interests me, need to see it go against DX11 and 12.
Going against OGL tells us nothing.
Modern API which runs the game with that lovely id-Tech-like low latency feel, coupled with the superb CPU-GPU utilization...
Everyone loves that
