PowerColor To Release an Unlocked BIOS for RX 480 RED Devil

PowerColor To Release an Unlocked BIOS for RX 480 RED Devil

PowerColor will release an Unlocked BIOS for its Radeon RX 480 RED Devil graphics card. The BIOS will become available tough their 'DevilClub' and is obviously optional for the more enthusiast users.

The BIOS increases power-limits and removes a couple of restrictions on the card in theory for higher overclocking and more steady clock speeds (throttling prevention). We've played around with the BIOS ourselves during our review stages of the product, it did not yield higher OC results on our end aside from some 20 MHz, and the settings made the card incredible noisy as the temps rise.

When released, use with caution (and perhaps earplugs).

PowerColor To Release an Unlocked BIOS for RX 480 RED Devil

I was going to ask if it would make much of a difference for the 480 and it's overclocking capabilities but the article already mentioned how you've tested it and yeah, it doesn't really seem to be that useful.
(100% fan speed is no fun at all for a measly overclock advantage and I guess voltage also has to be upped a bit to make it stable.)

It's a shame that it doesn't overclock any better. I assume the silicon simply won't allow for higher clocks since this cooler already looks overkill I'd still like to see if water cooling does anything.

No reason to overclock the GPU all too much, the power requirements go quickly up.
