PlayStation 5 modded with liquid cooling and a kickass design

PlayStation 5 modded with liquid cooling and a kickass design

Yeah, think about it, it's been reverted back to a PC, hasn't it? haha. A Vietnamese group of modders, Modding Cafe, pulled up their sleeves and tricks to create the world's first liquid-cooled PlayStation 5. To accomplish this, they had to make a mod considerably different from what they usually do.

They designed a custom chassis and liquid cooling, in order to reduce both the temperatures and the noise generated by the Sony console. Recall that Sony's proposal to deal with this problem was an aluminum radiator with 7 6mm thick copper heatpipes together with a copper base to dissipate the heat generated; and all accompanied by a 120x45mm fan. However, despite this, Sony had to resort to liquid metal to maximize heat transfer, as "it offers results up to 86% better than conventional thermal paste on PC", according to the company.

Modding Cafe managed to integrate the PS5 hardware into a Mini-ITX chassis that features a pretty cool/futuristic design. The side panels allow you to see both the interior of the console and the generous block with the liquid cooling circuit.

I saw this like a better PSU being used dont cause coilwhine. I dont think PS5 need watercooling, as it quiet and dont even remotely get as hot as my ps4 did after 5+ hours of playing. PS5 PSU still has coilwhine but no where near as bad as pro whine was.

As for the Ram being hot, system working I also bought 4year protection plan for the system when I bought from Walmart, so if does go in that time I fine, and even then I will find way to have them replace it for some reason before that time is up. we should have revisions by then

IF 5+ hours of runing ps5 games and the system remains quiet and no mention of overheating, I think I am fine.

@Neo Cyrus
and you know how many of the (most likely) triple digit million customers around the world care?
probably 5.

its absolutely IRRELEVANT.
if there WAS any issue, its covered by warranty (you heard of those right?)

so how many defective units? vs how many sold?
even if 100K are broken, if i sold 100 million, its not even an indicator.
list me some global numbers from authorized/sony repair centers, and i might start to believe you...

since the 1st one came out, sony outsells xb by 1-4x.
because joe and joanne on this planet care about the titles released on those units, not the clock speeds or ram temps.
the only one with a known major heat issue, was MS with the xb.
It's super relevant. If the failure rates continue at what seem to be an alarming rate it's on its way to becoming a mess like the PS3's cracking/breaking main BGA, or the 360's numerous RRoD issues.

Having to go through an annoying process to get a replacement, while no replacements are available, is going to matter. And last I heard Sony is not giving the number sold, because it's not nearly as big as they'd want to boast due to a lack of any good amount being made. Little Timmy's 1 month old PS5 shitting itself and dying, then being told by Sony to suck a fat one and wait months for a replacement does result in people caring.

You know what's actually irrelevant? How much Soyny outsells MS. What matters is what % of their garbage fails in what time, during a pandemic, while no replacement units are available. Like every company they won't ever give the public their real failure rate number unless ordered by a court for a lawsuit, and even then what's stopping them from lying? Soyny did a dumb-shit design that neglected the RAM and it backfired. Much like their initial idea to be cheapasses and offer low GPU power backfired when they realized what MS had in store, yeah that overpriced liquid metal approach was totally the idea from the start /s.

It's a garbage design, with garbage failure rates with the first batch, and people only put up with so much. This is an easy issue to fix, so I don't expect later batches to have a problem; it PROBABLY won't reach PS3/360 levels of stupid, but it shouldn't have happened to begin with.

so sony doesnt give real numbers, then how do you know there is a high failure rate?
to be able to state that, you would need both (to compare).
