Let's face it, PCIe Gen5 SSD has been delayed for far too long. But it seems that had a reason. At CES this year we'll see the first announcements and availability. It's also clear that some media have received samples, and as it turns out, we're going back 10 years as the new SSDs seem to require active cooling.  



On Facebook, an employee from Phison posted photos that had been shot by Marco Chiappetta (thus, courtesy of the photos go to Marco), and it made our eyebrows frown. The sample needs active cooling on the controller. Granted, the SS sustained performance will breach 10 Gb/sec, though we doubt random 4K performance will be much better.  

Anyway, have a peek at what Chris from Phison posted; we'll be very interested in learning what the final retail products will become. The active cooling indicates the controller needs a lot of cooling. We can see some passively cooled designs.
