Its surprising how long we were/are stuck with low Hz monitors, while we had high Hz CRTs decades ago.

There's close to no demand for those, so they aren't considered to be that important target for research and sales.
CRTs needed high refresh rates not to expose flicker, and despite that it was difficult to find a reliable 1600x1200@100Hz one (I think I'll have to fix my good old EIZO T965 sitting in a corner)

What? The pixels are always on, they don't flicker. It's easy on your eyes regardless of the internal refresh rate.

I wish companies would just release a 4k monitor with 120-144hz refresh. All these inbetweener make-do monitors are a real drag.
