In the past quarter, AMD has gained further market share from Intel, with 31.3% of the entire x86 market expected to be represented by team red at the end of 2022, a 2.8% increase from the previous quarter.

Despite this, Intel still holds the majority of the market with 68.7%. Mercury Research found that x86 chip sales decreased by 34% in Q4 2022 compared to the same period the previous year, and 19% less than Q3 2022. Despite these declines, the x86 chip market still managed to reach a record sale of $65 billion for the year, though 19% less than in 2021.

Despite the challenges faced by both manufacturers, including the worst downturn in the PC chip market since the 1980s, consumers and businesses have slowed their purchases due to rising inflation and economic uncertainty. Intel was hit the hardest, with a loss of $700 million in Q4 2022, while both companies have opted to ship fewer processors in response to the economic situation. Despite these challenges, AMD continues to close the gap on Intel's market share.
