Pending Windows 10 update will add widget to taskbar with personalized news and weather

Words has been spreading on the web that Microsoft is to overhaul the WIndows 10 interface a bit more. Back from the dead would be widgets, you probably can remember them from Windows.

Widgets are both loved and hated by many, Microsoft knows that and is firing up the marketing machine, by firing off 'AI-based functionality'. Considering any algorithm and programmed software that has a what-if statement in it is called AI these days you can expect a weather and news widget is added to the right of your desktop screen.

According to Microsoft, this feed will be fully personalized and there are 4,500 different news sources from which to consult. The widget could predict which news items a user finds interesting via 'artificial intelligence'.

The renewed taskbar is available to select Windows 10 Insiders members starting, and it is expected to roll out gradually to all users in the coming months. For the time being, testing is only possible in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and India. Users must also have the Chromium version of the Edge browser installed as clickable news links open in the browser. Microsoft further promises that there will be no ads in this overview (for now), and the function can also be turned off.

You use personalized Ads at work???

Windows 10.
Don't remind me, I am still at work. Yeah, I need to use it, learn to manage it and all things related.
Doesn't mean that I like it or I want to take iti home. Quite the contrary.

I love the vista cpu meter when newer laptops lack the hdd activity light.
How many of you actually run an analog clock on the desktop?
No clock but i have Hwinfo as a gadget on my desktop for cpu-temp etc

Insert knee-jerk, obligatory, random criticism of windows.

Im still in believe they should rather fix performance issue or boost performance in general on windows than pushing new features most people won't bother to use anyways.

You fail to grasp that "most people" that use Windows are not power users, tweakers, gamers, or enthusiasts. One of the number one type of apps on an android phone that users use the most now is a form of news app. This is why a lot of phones come with a built in news app whereby you swipe left to right on the home screen and a news app is already running customised to your interests. Microsoft are just following suite with Windows.

I never touched the widgets. I'm too old-school. Even now, running a tolerable 8/16 CPU, I'm still adverse to the idea of having anything in the background doing unnecessary things. Occasionally I look at the list of processes in the Task Manager and dream of getting rid of a bunch of them.

i only ran the analog (style) clock, the fans told me of cpu usage LOL
