PC version Call of Duty: Modern Warfare requires (required HDD Space: 175 GB)

PC version Call of Duty: Modern Warfare requires (required HDD Space: 175 GB)

We've been annoyed for years now that game installations get larger and larger. Well, a new record is about to be set, the PC version Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is listed at a 175 GB storage requirement.

We'd love to learn as to why that much storage space is needed. The required 175GB is listed under both the minimum and recommended system requirements on Battle.net

Minimum Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows® 7 64-bit (SP1) or Windows® 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-4340 or AMD FX-6300
  • Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670 / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 – DirectX 12.0 compatible system
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Storage: 175 GB available hard drive space
  • Internet: Broadband Internet connection

Recommended Requirements

  • Operating System:Windows® 10 64-bit latest update
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2500K or AMD Ryzen™ R5 1600X
  • Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970 / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon™ R9 390 / AMD Radeon™ RX 580 – DirectX 12.0 compatible system
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Storage: 175 GB available hard drive space
  • Internet: Broadband Internet connection

In the previous releases you'd already look at a massive (Infinite Warfare) had 70 GB. I mean I can understand an HD Texture pack needing some more storage, but this is exorbitant. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on October 25.

I still have somewhere a 5-year-old 60gig SSD. It's quietly crying in a corner.

I'd be really curious to know what actually makes up that data. Textures? Levels? DRM? :D
Also, how does this fare with a console? Where you have 500GB space, 1TB maybe, and you can install maybe two or three games besides this? That's... well... :D
