PC Monitor Shipments Plummet 18.3% YoY in 4Q22: IDC Report
According to the latest Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the PC monitor market has experienced an 18.3% decline in year-over-year (YoY) shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022 (4Q22).
This has resulted in a 5.9% decline for the entire year of 2022. The market volume for 4Q22, at just over 30.5 million units, was the lowest volume recorded since IDC started tracking the market in 2008. The macro environment, which adversely affected both consumer and commercial demand, was a significant factor in the setback. Consequently, the results were in line with the anticipated 16.2% drop in shipments for 4Q22. After an unprecedented expansion during earlier periods of the pandemic, driven by work from home and gaming needs, consumer monitor demand began to slow. Commercial monitor purchases also were affected as economic sentiments deteriorated in the latter part of 2022. As a result of worsened economic conditions, IDC expects 2023 shipments to contract another 9.8% as lingering inventory and tepid demand weigh on the market. 2024 should see a slight recovery that will lift shipment volumes above pre-pandemic levels as inventory improves. Beyond 2024, IDC expects further stabilization based on the larger installed base that was created by hybrid work and the growth in gaming monitors.
"Monitors will remain an afterthought for many buyers in the short term," said Jay Chou, research manager for IDC's Worldwide Client Device Trackers. "Annual volume had averaged about 125 million before COVID-19, then shot up to over 135 million for each of the past three years. It will take a while for the dust to settle. Consumer and businesses are recalibrating their priorities, but we remain confident that much of the recently expanded installed base will be enticed to upgrade in the coming years."
IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker gathers detailed market data in over 90 countries. The research includes historical and forecast trend analysis among other data.

I'm interested in those that use a TV as gaming PC gaming screens, what's your setup actually like? Surely the TV isn't on the desk, so do you have a desk with the mouse/keyboard and the TV on a wall a couple meters away? Is the desk away from a wall? Or do you use like a lap style desk and sit on a couch in the front room for example? I have no desire to use a TV and sit 2-3 feet away from it.
As for ultrawides, I tried a 34" screen when they first came out and hated it. Went straight back to 2x screens. I much prefer 1 screen directly in front for main work or gaming and a secondary screen to the right of the 1st and angled for secondary work, media players ect.

Would love to get new monitor if prices where not stupid compared tv prices for price of 27-32 monitor you could cant 40 inch or bigger tv. then again one reason why I keep coming back to 24 tn is qaulity and quality control have gone dont the crappier since i bought that monitor.
one petvee about monitor is there for the cost they could atlest get a remote so we dont have fumble around on monitor to changes setting and inputs or change the volume if monitor has speakers.
all i want is 27" no bigger then that monitor that isnt IPS or horrid VA panel that 4k that isnt gona TN barely made these days and VA panels that dont massive response time issue or horride overshoot are almost as rare and actuan TN monitor being made these days. but there all ridiculously price when think about price to size ratio
by the time oled is actual affordable, which is not as still ridiculous priced I will be dead or there be another tech replacing. LG C2 42 Oled that make sense from price stand point

Don't forget, a LOT of people are buying TVs as gaming displays, especially those that love OLED !
LG C1/2 are superior in every way to 99% of the monitors out there.
I am typing on a C9 right now... and probably won't be buying another "monitor" ever again. Next display is going to be a C3 or C4, probably 42" or so...
This^
Right now Im going to get LG C3 42" as a addition to my 48" C2.

Despite the fact that my 1080ti doesn`t have the firepower necessary to driver my current UW 144Hz screen, i wouldn`t mind replacing it with another one with better image quality, but a better screen than mine costs more than 800€, so no thanks...
That`s the case with my TV. But i still wonder if the TV is spying on me anyway...
