PC gamers spent 62% more on PC Gaming in 2020 than in 2019

The NPD Group shared a report on the PC hardware, accessories, and games market, where the figures revealed that gamers spent in 2020 considerably higher than in previous years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.



Total consumer spending on hardware and accessories is reported to have amounted to $ 4.5 billion last year, representing 62% increase over 2019, and more than double compared to the figures handled in 2017. On the other hand, spending on digital games also experienced a growth of 19% versus the previous year.

The release also outlined the fastest-growing categories, including headsets, monitors, and PC keyboards. Thus, PC gaming accessories revenue grew by an incredible 81% compared to 57% growth in hardware sales revenue.

“After a historic 2020, with several years of growth in a single year, we forecast 3% growth for PC gaming hardware and accessories in 2021. While we remain optimistic about the outlook for gaming hardware and accessories of PCs into the future and we expect the segment's growth rate to exceed that of the industry as a whole, we do not expect such large increases in profit, but rather lower demand at these new high levels, ”stated Stephen Baker, Industry Advisor of NPD technology.
