NVIDIA To hold Special Event September 1st for Ampere announcements (updated)

As NVIDIA inaugurated a viral on twitter, a big bang as it seems from the animation today we have more info to share. Tagged as the "Ultimate Countdown" the company will hold an event on September the 1st.

The teaser posted on Twitter is guided by a background image on the official twitter NVIDIA profile page. It is listing “21 Days. 21 years.” This mysterious message thus points to August 31st. Which not coincidentally is the equivalent date that GeForce 256 was released in 1999, yep 21 years ago. This probably is the first of many teasers that likely will reach biblical and to stay in the theme, astronomical proportions.  Currently, the rumour is that on the 9th of September we'll see announcements. However, 21 days from now ... is August 31st (depending on time-zone).

Updated: So timezones, as it turns out NVIDIA will hold an event (likely live stream) on September the 1st. This is now confirmed by NVIDIA, and on this website you can see one big countdown ... counting down. NVIDIA is expected to announce at least two GeForce graphics cards based on the Ampere series, the RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti.

Coincidentally, 21 years ago was when I retired my SLI Voodoo 2s and the Riva TNT2 Ultra and bought the GF256. Been team green ever since, with only the 9700 Pro stealing me away for a year or two. I really wish AMD would finally release something competitive, I'm tired of nvidia getting all my money all the time.

So "Marketing" are saying that from what we have now to what is coming is as significant as the big bang??

And "Engineering" are saying just a 20-30% jump in total in raster performance over 2080Ti...

Hilarious.

Or maybe marketing means the price increase will be astronomical?

I'm assuming they're going to try to bleed us dry. Everyone's increasing prices at the top end these days. 30% over 2080Ti wouldn't be anything to scoff at, though.
