Nvidia silently launches GeForce GTX 965M for laptops
Without any noise Nvidia has launched a new mobile GPU, the GeForce GTX 965M for laptops. The GTX 965M is actually based upon a Maxwell GM204 GPU, yet with less shader processors compared to the 970M and 980M.
Compared to the 970M and 980M the one thing that is noticeable is that narrow 128-bit wide memory bus. Compression techniques should make up for that but it seems seems to be a new trend. The card should perform well though, against a GTX 870M the power consumption and perf should be really good.
It is unclear just yet how much memory the Mobile GPU will be opaired with, likely 2 or 4 GB. Thaty memory will run at 5 Gbps though / 924 MHz. The mobile processor will also get Boost 2.0 for dynamic clock frequencies.
GTX 980M | GTX 970M | GTX 965M | |
---|---|---|---|
Cuda cores | 1536 | 1280 | 1024 |
Clock freq | 1038MHz (+boost) | 924MHz (+boost) | 944MHz (+boost) |
Mem Size (Max.) | 4GB/8GB | 3GB/6GB | 2GB/4GB(?) |
Mem Speed | 1250MHz (5GHz) gddr5 | 1250MHz (5GHz) gddr5 | 1250MHz (5GHz) gddr5 |
Mem Bus | 256-bit | 192-bit | 128-bit |

I am sure for a laptop it will be great. I mainly game, and if I am gaming on a laptop I would not play demanding games.

If I were to purchase a gaming computer right now, I'll get one with the 980M, that 770-like performance in a laptop
