Nvidia Shield First To Enable Google Assistant
If you read our latest 2017 Nvidia Shield Android TV review, you would have noticed i mentioned that Nvidia was hard at work with Google to get the Google assistant introduced. Nvidai is first to bring that functionality towards the latest OTA update
The NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV 2017 is up-to snuff with the latest technologies. As you'd imagine, Google Assistant works just like it does on the company's Home device and Pixel phones, but you can also command it to play media on the Shield TV. You just speak to the device and Shield / Google will analyze and get you answers or activate thing. If you say OK Google netflix, you guessed it already Netflix should start.
For this first implementation it only works with music and videos. You say OK GOOGLE WATCH VIDEO LORD OF THE RINGS and it would do that. To make things interesting, Google will give owners a free three month subscription to YouTube RED, the service without advertisements.
In the future, things tend to get more advanced though as you would be able to say complete sentences and the HUB understands and reacts to it in a rather profound and proper way. It won't be long before we all will start speaking in the living room, and your Google assistant based device will be monitoring and adapting to your requests. Currently if you press the mic button on the remote or controller, much like your smart-phone the SHIELD will react and answer or activate whatever you command it to.
In the future we for-see a nest of devices, e.g. you talk to the Google Assistant and control say the heating in your room, or lighting or TV and so on. Yur Shiled device should get or already have the new OTA update enabling this optional functionality.

The only problem with the original is that the original controller doesn't support always on listening. I use a Harmony remote to control my AVR/TV/Shield and I never play games on the shield so the controller is somewhere in my closet.
I'm just hoping I can use my Google Home or assistant on my phone to control the Shield but I doubt you can considering the commands between assistant on phone/home/androidauto seem to be separated.

i am just amazed at how many people are willing to compromise their privacy for convenience.
i do not want any "smart" device with microphones, cameras, motion detectors, etc...
just think of trying to watch your sunday football when some scriptkid in belarus is getting his jollies. not pretty.

It can't set reminders or alarms.
Which I thought would be some of the first features Google home would have addressed. (facepalm)
