Nvidia Might Withdraw $40 Billion Arm Bid

Bloomberg and EEtimes are suggesting that NVIDIA seems to be silently abandoning the ARM deal. According to people familiar with the subject, after making little to no headway in securing approval for the $40 billion semiconductor transaction.

According to one individual who requested anonymity because to the nature of the conversations, Nvidia has informed partners that it does not expect the purchase to finalize. Meanwhile, SoftBank is ramping up preparations for an Arm initial public offering as a possible alternative to the Nvidia acquisition, another source said.

According to one individual who requested anonymity due to the nature of the conversations, Nvidia has notified partners that the acquisition is unlikely to be completed. Meanwhile, another source indicated that SoftBank is pushing up preparations for an Arm initial public offering as a viable alternative to the Nvidia acquisition.

“We continue to hold the views expressed in detail in our latest regulatory filings -- that this transaction provides an opportunity to accelerate Arm and boost competition and innovation,” Nvidia spokesman Bob Sherbin said.

“We remain hopeful that the transaction will be approved,” a SoftBank spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Both Nvidia and SoftBank want this to go through. It's other governments (mostly EU and UK I think) and ARM licensees who are all trying to fight this.

Why?...I know, I know long conversation but why?...in your opinion of course.

ok now book 40 billion worth of production

I'd change tactics and buy a few game studios instead then. Starting with Crytek.

I would say yes to that, cryengine is pretty great visually (look at kingdom come,it's still one of the nicest looking games around)
and cryengine is a lot better than i.e. UE4,as far as multithreading it's the best hands down,it can push 16 threads easily.
it's not being used at all though.

microchips are being overused in the Auto industry!...

example: it just cost me $100 to make my rear window in my truck go up and down!

a switch in my house to turn the light on and off cost $0.50

I know a Tesla "electric car" must have all that but damn I got a Chevrolet Gas/Petro!

up is up and down is down!....we never needed a microchip to do that before!

I swear this world wants a microchip in everything!...

Alexa turn off the light!

You'll want a microchip in there the second you put your arm by accident through it and there are no pressure sensors to signal to the microchip that there's something stuck in there.

Poof, amputation by car window.

Wow...I wonder if someone else gave them a better offer?

Hard to turn down 40 billion dollars but then again Arm is worth a trillion dollars!

Hey!...we should start a company called the Leg!...and then Incorporated it with Arm!

Then we change the name to "Arm and Leg"...?

And then in 2023 we start a company called Kidney...merge all three!
Nvidia already has plenty of kidneys
