Nvidia might give 7nm GPU teaser on GTC
NVIDIA is filling the market in full effect with their Turing GPUS, however as always the next GPU in line already has been in development for a long time. As it seems over at the GTC (Graphics Technology Conference), which starts today, NVIDIA might share a few details about the next-gen GPU.
Turing is fabbed on 12nm, AMD has already released their first 7 nanometer GPU with the Radeon VII, both fabbed at TSMC. The gossip and chatter on the web right now are that NVIDIA will share some details on an Ampere-based Tesla or Quadro card.
It would be really early to talk about the new architecture, however as stated, AMD is going fast (they have Navi coming up as well) and if we advance one year, there's Intel with Xe. GTC starts today (March 17) and and we'll report about the developments one the news comes in.

With Moore's law becoming more difficult each year technology is bound to change. At one point it will be impossible to shrink transistors even further, hence companies like Nvidia already are thinki...
Rumor: Nvidia Mobile Pascal-GPUs during Computex 2016 - not Desktop - 02/26/2016 01:31 PM
It's been topic for discussion for a while now. Personally I think we'll see some soft of announcement in April during the GTC, and later on a broad announcement in the Computex timeframe. Likely, a...

Definitely not getting dropped, as it is the future. If they drop it now they'll just have to start it up again within 2 years, as ray tracing isn't going away, and will become the norm.
Only way ray tracing cores, or dedicated hardware for ray tracing, goes away, is if the tech in FP32 and INT32 performance drastically increases to the point dedicated hardware is no longer needed (borderline impossible) or if the dedicated hardware simply gets combined with the rest of the GPU and tasks not only on ray tracing but other parts of the game as well, getting rid of the "technical" dedicated hardware for ray tracing, even though it's still, also technically, there.
Next generations of nvidia GPUs will likely not have "some with RT cores, some without", unless it's a rebrand and low end GPU. If not by next generation, as i said likely, it's pretty much guaranteed by the generation after that.
I literally would be willing to bet my life savings on that, as nothing else makes sense.

Most likely will be all about Volta and new 7nm incoming proffesional gpus, focused on AI.
You accepting trades for that?

There's gonna be A LOT of really pissed RTX users if Nvidia releases some sort of better, cheaper, shrunk RTX series.
Before you say that it cannot happen, remember Maxwell.
yeah, coz the 285 didn't go and do exactly that and everyone lost their minds then (not).

I think this whole gen for nvidia was just to push out new tech in the same way that AMD originally launched the fury with hbm it's a proof of concept to see if it catches on and makes a difference. All the rtx cards atm are side grades when looking at performance per dollar with added rtx capabilities I dont think they intended to sell alot or make alot ot money on this series. I would not be surprised if they decide rtx isnt worth it and drop it already.
