Nvidia Launches Budget Friendly GeForce GTX 1060 with 3GB
Nvidia today officially announced the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB. And they did so a little out of the blue (or green). The new 3GB model matches the specs leaked ealier last week.
The 3GB cards will be slowed down a notch, not just in memory but a SM shader cluster is to be disabled. Normally the 1060 6GB would have 1280 shader processors, the 3GB models will get 1152 shader processors activated. The GeForce GTX 1060 reference clocks get a 1506 MHz GPU base clock, with 1708 MHz boost alongside 8 Gbps memory (3GB / 192-bit). The 3GB models are aimed against AMDs Radeon RX 470 and RX 480 with 4 GB graphics memory.
I received a handful of prices:

The memory is clocked at 8 Gbps (effective) as well as the reference clock frequencies of 1.50 GHz GPU / 1.70 GHz Boost. Nvidia expects retail/channel availability of the new 3GB SKU over the next few weeks. There will be a driver update today to support this new configuration as well.

Anyone who still using 3GB cards know that even for 1080p that much Vram is a no-go.
I've been reducing texture settings in quite a few games now.

Calling it a 1060 will make it more attractive to buyers. Profit is the goal.
And just looked at the specs... it would make no sense to call it a 1050 over a 1060.
