NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Surfaces in 3DMark

I am on a trip right now so i'll have to keep it short, but 3Dmark numbers of a GeForce GTX 1080 surfaced.

The benchmarks leaked from videocardz,  to be mroe specific the results hint at a GTX 1080 running on early drivers which was measured on two PCs. One was run with a Core i7-5820K processor and scored P19005 on 3DMark 11 (performance preset). The second entry was based on a Core i7-3770K processor and reached 8959 points on 3DMark FireStrike Extreme. Such scores if the 1080 are higher opposed to the GTX 980 Ti.

I honestly kind of find it amusing that Nvidia might be launching these cards before AMD (I'm assuming tomorrow they won't launch, but I do expect we will be able to get them by June). When basically everyone said Nvidia wouldn't have anything until the end of this year, way after AMD.

I really think AMD showing its cards early hurt them more then helped them. Most people assumed Polaris would replace the Fury X and ended up not buying it (there were tons of threads like this on /r/amd) and now they aren't even replacing the Fury X until Vega.

Just seems like a terrible marketing decision. Imagine if Apple showed the next iPhone off 6+ months before it launched. It would be terrible for current sales. Although I guess it does throw potential buyers off Nvidia products as well. Idk. Just seems bad to me.

I think I get those scores in 3dmark11 now at 1418mhz, if not alittle higher.. need to double check., ok 3dmark extreme is 800points higher, but thats minimal.. 1-2fps

:nerd:Overall its as expected, Im betting on at least 550$/€., oc probably up to 2000mhz.
I was going to skip this one and looks like I'll just wait for Volta / Navi.

:)dunno I dont regret buying 980ti now.. payed 420€ 980ti and it delivers, think it will also pull ahead where extra 16 ROPS and 20-30gb/s matter.

I say this again, if pascal carries over the doubled fp-16 that tesla has then it will be interesting, if fp16 shaders take off in gaming it will be a big improvement vs maxwell and gcn.

On the other hand....

If the fp16 capability is enabled in geforce, that will cannibalize sales of both the new maxwell quadro and that of the tesla variants. Deep learning for cheap.

So I'm Doubtful

half precision (fp-16) would be a bad idea for games though... 16-bit integers just isn't enough for most shaders and would be a big step backward for color output. I for one don't want to go back to the days of 3dfx voodoo and have dithering on my display output!!

Now if we start seeing some games use double precision (fp-64) and Geforce Pascal does keep all those DP Units.. That could be pretty interesting!

I tried to drop my CPU core to match the benchmark, and had to go as low as 3Ghz per core. (retail is 3.3Ghz).
Here is my 3dMark11 link:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/11224550

980-Ti is 1495Mhz Core, 3950Mhz Memory which is a pretty solid overclock of 37% over retail boost clock of 1090Mhz.

The Graphic score is 26 827.
From the 1080 Benchmark that leaked on ***************, 1080 delivers 27683.

It's therefore a 3% increased (again, i'm not sure of the frequency of their 5820K, i wasn't far from it with 3Ghz) over an highly overclocked 980-Ti.
