and even in dx12 I think nvidia is just smoother in many games.

Thanks HH, it seems you're not impacted by the infamous DPC Latency issues that plague a good number of Pascal owners. My DPC latency spikes to around 3500us when playing games on my Strix 1080. Luckily Nvidia has acknowledged the issue and a fix is inbound after the next set of drivers.
