Apparently, NVIDIA has decided to remove the Max-Q and Max-P labels from its GeForce Mobile products. Differential labels concerning lower consumption (Max-Q) and performance (Max-P) will be removed unless specified by the manufacturer.

With the launch of the GeForce RTX 30 Mobile, all notebook manufacturers began to sell their latest models, not clarifying whether it is a Max-Q, or Max-P GPU reports notebookcheck;

“This means that a 115W RTX 3060 Mobile can outperform an 80W RTX 3080 Mobile depending on the workload. The lack of explicit details on the power in the notebook's specifications can complicate things for the end-user, who generally assumes that the mention of an RTX 3080 Mobile automatically implies higher performance.

“We also learned that the implementation of the Max-Q functions would be at the discretion of the manufacturer. If, for example, the GPU is already at the lower end of the TDP range, such as a 60W RTX 3060 Mobile, the manufacturer may choose not to implement Dynamic Boost 2.0. Instead, you can offer it for a higher TDP variant. The problem is that the end-user cannot know what limitations his possible purchase has just by looking at the specification sheet ”, indicates the site.

If you are interested in buying a notebook in this segment, you will have to invest time investigating the TGPs and the power consumption of each model to make a decision that suits your circumstances and demands the best.
