Nvidia Cracks Down on Counterfeit Graphics Cards in Collaboration with Chinese E-commerce Platforms
Nvidia has taken a stand against the distribution of counterfeit graphics cards from the GTX 10, GTX 16, and RTX 20 series. This decision follows the surge of fake video cards being sold under these names by unlicensed brands, such as 51RISC, Corn, and Mllse, on multiple Chinese e-commerce platforms.
Nvidia and Chinese e-commerce platforms are working together to fight the sale of counterfeit graphics cards in China. To avoid purchasing fake cards, Nvidia advises opting for the newer 30 or 40 series cards from official partners and steering clear of cheap knockoff cards or mobile GPU modified desktop cards. These cards are typically repurposed for cryptocurrency mining or adapted from mobile GPUs, and are sold at suspiciously low prices. In response to this issue, Nvidia has joined forces with major Chinese e-commerce platforms, including JD.com, Douyin, Pinduoduo, and Tmall, to ban the sale of used, refurbished, or counterfeit Nvidia 10, 16, or 20 series video cards. This measure specifically targets these series, as they have been the most affected by the cryptocurrency mining craze in recent years, while the 30 and 40 series remain relatively unscathed.
Nvidia strongly encourages customers to purchase the more recent 30 or 40 series cards from recognized official partners to avoid falling prey to counterfeit graphics cards. The company has distanced itself from these counterfeit brands and recommends exercising caution when encountering deals that seem too good to be true or modified mobile GPU desktop cards.
To further address the counterfeit graphics card issue, Nvidia is actively collaborating with leading e-commerce platforms to eliminate these unofficial graphics cards from the market. JD.com and Douyin have already started prohibiting the sales of used, refurbished, or falsely advertised graphics cards from unauthorized brands, while Pinduoduo and Tmall have implemented specific sales criteria for used and refurbished cards.

Nvidia just can't stand to see ppl get a cheaper gpu, they haven't realized yet that they're the ones pushing ppl to alternatives with their exorbitant pricing.

Not that they would care much about GPUs being bought and used by vendors we don't usually know about or see, it's just the issue that they are unlicensed. Which means no extra money for Nvidia, since they'd probably want a part of that cake too when the chip is taken out of an old product and put into a new card by any reknown AIB partner.
Also, at times they fake VBIOSs, which tells you it's a "3070TIM", when in reality it's a 1660 or such rubbish. Only finding out once games show bad performance or unexpected behaviour like crashing with VRAM limits although it's supposed to work etc.

God you are so wrong here. They have been making fake gpus for a long time. Stuff like GTX 450 sold as GTX 750ti. Faked bios, fakes vram, etc. This is nothing like your example.
It took Nvidia nearly 10 years to do something about this. Jesus Christ. I literally emailed them direct links to fake cars on ebay back in 2016, sent tweets, etc.
