Nvidia brings full GeForce GTX 980 towards laptops

Nvidia brings GeForce GTX 980 towards laptops, the manufacturer uses the GM204-gpu with 2048 cores which is a substantial faster GPU opposed to the regular GTX 980M.

The current GTX 980M part is also based on the GM204-gpu yet uses 1536 cores. The clock frequency is clocked at 1175 MHz with 7 Gbps on the memory, the energy consumption as the TDP is 165W. Which is still HUGE for a laptop. These MXM GPU parts can be tweaked a bit,to roughly 1400 MHz on the core, and 7.50 GHz on the memory. It also offers fan-control. The GeForce GTX 980 for Notebooks reference board features 4-8 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit wide memory bus.

The GTX 980 is an MXM part and as we know, six manufacturers will use it. You have just seen ther MSI announcement, but you may also expect releases from ASUS, Aorus and Clevo. Shown in some document Nvidia advises four to eight phases inside that laptop. For the 980M that was still three.

I mean I can't personally see the use for a laptop like this but I'm sure some people can.

I'd rather have a good external GPU system that's forward compatible. I know MSI has one but they refuse to provide answers on whether or not they will release laptops in the future that support the current external unit.

"Gaming" Laptops are useful as lap heater, but that's about it.

Oh and perhaps emptying your wallet.

I have found that old laptops make great media/home theater PCs. :)
