The new RTX 40 series was officially unveiled last Tuesday, and NVIDIA stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a free PC update to take use of the new technology. Ray Tracing Overdrive will be the name of this new mode, and it promises to elevate the game's graphics to the next level.

Support for NVIDIA RTX Direct Illumination (RTDXI) technology, which adds authentic lighting and shadows to every item in the game, will also be included in the update. NVIDIA ensures that the game universe's colour realism and the type of light present in the environment are preserved. Cyberpunk 2077's ray tracing system will also be improved, with rays now reflecting numerous times. As a result, global lighting, reflections, and auto-reflections are even more accurate, realistic, and immersive.

NVIDIA also claims that all of these effects will be displayed in native resolution in the game. Given the realism provided by the Ray Tracing Overdrive mode, Cyberpunk 2077 does not require the usage of any other occlusion approach that does not act in real time.
We do not yet know when the update will be ready. NVIDIA and CD Projekt RED have not commented on it, but they have stated that it will be free. Given the developer's track record, this is expected to happen in November of this year, along with additional game content and bug patches.

According to NVIDIA, Cyberpunk 2077 will also be one of the first games to use DLSS 3.0 technology, which offers up to four times greater frame rates per second than its predecessor.
