I think its more that most dont really care, they buy what they can afford and game on.
Majority of gamers I personally know dont read forums like this one and base their purchase on what friends recommend or maybe Toms Hardware reviews etc.
I think you're overestimating gamers. We're pretty pathetic and spineless tbh.

absolutely not.
The 4080 12GB is actually the 4060Ti NOT the 4070. The 4070 is the 4080 16GB.
absolutely not.

No we don't because the 'we' you talk about are insignificant in the eyes of everybody with eyes.
Its the same reason why you can't haggle with a Porsche salesman, pay the asking price or move along.
We have the power to crash both AMD and Nvidia to bring back normal pricing.

gtx1080 (GP104 die) were selling for 700usd for 10 months (May 2016 - Mar 2017) before being reduced to 550usd, 980Ti were selling for 650usd.
GP104 die size was 314mm2, GM102 die size is 600mm2.
The problem is that GP104 was the fastest GPU when it launched, but this time the fastest AD102 launch first, so any premium for AD104 doesn't make sense LOL
gp104 was 25% faster than 980ti
ad104 is about 3090 performance
