Noctua presents next-gen NF-A12x25 120mm fan, 140mm adaptor and redux line NF-P12
Noctua presents its next-gen 120x25mm A-series fan and NA-SFMA1 adaptors that allow it to be used on 140mm based watercoolers. The NF-A12x25 is made of Noctua’s novel Sterrox LCP material and integrates the latest innovations in aerodynamic engineering to achieve a high level of quiet cooling performance.
While the NF-A12x25 becomes the new flagship model in the 120mm range, the classic NF-P12 will be reissued in the streamlined, more affordable redux line.
“The NF-A12x25 is our most advanced fan today. We’ve spent more than 4.5 years developing it and it’s been easily the most thorny, intricate development project we’ve completed so far,” explains guru Lars Strömbäck (Noctua CTO):“In order to achieve our goal of surpassing our renowned NF-F12 and NF-S12A, we went for a completely different approach and had to use a tip clearance of only 0.5mm, which poses various new difficulties in manufacturing.”
Whereas the award-winning NF-F12 and NF-S12A are specialised solutions that are either optimised for maximum static pressure or maximum airflow, the new NF-A12x25 follows the approach of Noctua’s A-series in being a true all-rounder that yields superb results in all types of usage, regardless of whether it’s in low-impedance, airflow-oriented applications such as case cooling, or high-impedance, pressure-demanding scenarios such as on heatsinks and watercooling radiators. In practice, the NF-A12x25 not only outperforms the renowned NF-F12 on 120mm based watercooling radiators, but combined with the new, optional NA-SFMA1 adaptor frames, it also offers better efficiency than many 140mm fans on 140mm based systems.
One of the cornerstones of the NF-A12x25’s next-generation performance is its record tight tip clearance (distance between the blade tips and the inside of the frame) of only 0.5mm. This highly ambitious design helps the NF-A12x25 to work more efficiently against back pressure, such as on heatsinks or radiators, by reducing leaks flows through the gap between impeller and frame. Manufacturing a fan with such a small tip clearance is extremely delicate and was only made possible by Noctua’s new Sterrox® liquid-crystal polymer (LCP) material, which features extreme tensile strength, an exceptionally low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent dimensional stability.
“We have never put so much research and effort into a single fan so far, both on the level of fine-tuning the aerodynamic construction and on the level of materials and manufacturing,” says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO): “Many challenges had to be overcome, but now we’re proud with the end result and confident that the NF-A12x25 will become a new benchmark for premium-quality quiet 120mm fans.”
The NF-A12x25 will be available in a 4-pin PWM version for automatic speed control, 3-pin FLX version with Low-Noise Adaptors for three different speed settings as well as a near-silent 3-pin ULN (Ultra-Low-Noise) version. As the NF-A12x25 becomes the new flagship model in Noctua’s 120mm range, the classic NF-P12 moves to the streamlined, more affordable redux line. It will henceforth be available in 1700 and 1300rpm 4-pin PWM versions as well as 1300 and 900rpm 3-pin versions.
The suggested retail prices are as follows:
- NF-A12x25 (all versions): EUR 29.90 / USD 29.90
- NF-P12 redux (all versions): EUR 13.90 / USD 13.90
- NA-SFMA1: EUR 11.90 / USD 11.90

These new Noctua fans look impressive - the 0.5mm fan blade to casing spec is a bold & innovative step forward in my eyes, and to me it makes perfect sense because the natural peak performance of a fan is towards the tip of each fan blade, so this step just further maximises that characteristic by preventing air 'escaping' around the tips of the fan blades.
Noctua fans all round in my PC case, and also on my CPU cooler (considering it's an NH-D14 that's not surprising!). Originally I had cheap Arctic F12 fans as case fans, and their peak performance is actually higher than the Noctua fans, but they are noisier - the Noctua fans have a higher performance per decibel, and I've tuned my rig to be close to silent while retaining as much performance as possible, so Noctua fans were the right choice.
Regarding the brown look of the fans, as others have said it's a brand identity thing and it's associated with enthusiast quality & performance, they look ok in my black case.

Everyone knows beige and brown just work better!

This color scheme matches every beige case from the 90s. It's called "vintage".
On a serious note, Noctua makes the best PC fans money can buy. Plus, they do look less than ugly with cold cathode or LED lighting in the case.
I think nidec made the best tho, My gentle typhoon is super quiet and still running strong after 5 years of usage.

Yeah gentle typhoons are some of the best fans ever made, nice acoustic profile, very quiet, and good performing.
I wonder which of Scythe's fans is the successor to those, if there is one... @jura11 usually knows

Hi there
Scythe Gentle Typhoon are still best radiator fans and I would say these fans are now taken as reference
Darkside is still making these Gentle Typhoon or rather using Nidec Servo Gentle Typhoon fans, these are in black colour
For radiator fans, have run few of them on my radiators, Phanteks PH-F120MP or BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 or Noiseblocker BlackSilent Pro PL2 or Noiseblocker eLoop, EK Vardar F3 1850RPM, Noctua NF-F12, Thermalright TY-143SQ or TY-147ASQ etc, for 120mm I would have to look on Darkside Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm, PH-F120MP are nice fans on radiators, BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 are too very nice fans, Noiseblocker BlackSilent Pro PL2 have on MO-ra3 and there these fans are very quiet or quietest fans which I run on my loop at full speed at 1150RPM, eLoop are not bad, just their noise at push pull configuration can make difference in some cases, usually I use gasket on radiators if I use eLoop fans
EK Vardar F3 1850RPM I thought so are Gentle Typhoon replacement, but they're clearly not at all, run these fans and I hated them on my loop
Noctua NF-F12 has been nice surprise on my friend loop where we are used these fans and these fans have nice profile
For 140mm size I still would choose Thermalright TY-143SQ or TY-147ASQ as these fans I run and running them on my loop and love these fans, TY-143SQ have vety nice profile and TY-147ASQ are slower speed fans(max RPM 1300RPM I think) and TY-143SQ are faster speed fans(2500RPM I think max speed is) and running them at 2500RPM is just too loud, at 1300-1500RPM are nice and quiet, although I run them at 850RPM as max
Hope this helps
Thanks, Jura

I only use Noctua fans in my case for several years now. I don't really care what they look like since no other fan really comes close in the performance.
