Noctua confirms CPU coolers are compatible with Intel LGA1200
The heatsink mounting on Intel's new LGA1200 platform (code name Comet Lake S) is identical to all LGA115x sockets (LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155, LGA1156).
Therefore, all Noctua CPU coolers that support LGA115x also support LGA1200 and don't require any mountig updates. Many other cooler models that do not support LGA115x can be made compatible free of charge with the NM-i115x Upgrade-Kit. The following models include a mounting-kit for socket LGA1200/LGA115x and are thus compatible out of the box:

- NH-D15
- NH-D15 chromax.black
- NH-D15S
- NH-D14
- NH-L12
- NH-L12S
- NH-L9i

In addition, all older models which have been upgraded with the NM-I3 kit can also be used on LGA115x without any further upgrades. The following models can be made compatible with the LGA1200 socket free of charge using the NM-i115x upgrade-kit:

- NH-D15 SE-AM4
- NH-L9x65 SE-AM4
- NH-U12
- NH-U12F
- NH-U12P
- NH-U12P SE1366
- NH-U12S SE-AM4

The following models can be made compatible with the LGA1200 socket using the NM-i115x upgrade-kit but are not eligible for Noctua‘s free mounting offer, so users have to purchase the kit at local resellers:NH-U12DO (Note that the A3 version is not compatible!)

There really was no choice for AMD with the size of the processor and packaging.
who knew, its actually AMD being a dick in this regard, thankfully im okey with zip ties and so i kept my 5yo cooler

AMD stuck with the same cooler mount since socket 754 way back in 2003 (or socket 939 for aftermarket mounting brackets). That's a LONG time. I'm still using this ancient heatsink (now with a Noctua fan) on my AM4 build:

Still works great and I got it for $25 new. It didn't fit perfectly because I wasn't able to use all of the original mounting hardware, but it still stayed planted after I moved recently.
I think the more "centered" mount holes for AM4 was a good move. Inconvenient for those who have these old heatsinks, but necessary for the really bulky ones we have today.

damn i didnt know it was that old, i kinda miss those days when there were so many options, completely different designs and not just the same "tower-dualtower-clc" standard we have today
