Nintendo to Release Switch a handheld console power by Nvidia

Nintendo to Release Switch a handheld console power by Nvidia

Nintendo uncovered the Nintendo Switch (previously codenamed the NX), a small portable device on which you can play games. Basically is an Nvidia Tegra powered tablet with two controllers that can be removed.

Nintendo has not released any specification on the Switch but Nvidia already spread word that they are powering it.Nintendo released this preview trailer this morning. Though they officially confirmed that they were working on a new console way back in March of 2015, this is the first glimpse they’ve actually released. The console in home mode; the portable display unit/brain of the console charging in the center. The controller comes apart, allowing its left and right sides to slide off.

Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards. The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses. Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.

As rumored, the system appears to be something of a home console/portable console hybrid. You’ve got a controller that connects to your TV for home use — but slide off the controller’s sides and attach it to the portable display (which also appears to act as the console’s brain), and you’re playing the same title on the go. The product is to be released next year in March.

Idk - I think it's pretty cool that they got Skyrim Remastered working on a Tegra.

Plus this just shows that Bethesda is onboard with Nintendo. Very excited for that at least.

If it truly does run Tegra, then awesome. Tegra is not the fastest SOC, but man Nvidia sure does know how to make an awesome SOC.

I kind of like the idea of getting rid of the optical drive though. Xbox really only uses it for dvd/bluray, and to install physical media. You can't even play a game until it's installed on the hard drive.

I'm kind of curious to know if it's Parker based or K1. I would assume Parker - also curious to know how the performance scales in tablet mode vs docked with power.

I think it's a really neat idea regardless.
