A user of the Chinese social network Bilibili posted several tests of the new Intel Core i3-12100 and i3-12300 processors, demonstrating the excellent performance of the new Alder Lake mid-range models, which will be available in early 2022.

It is necessary to discuss the specifications of a product before discussing its performance characteristics. Due to the fact that they will be based on the smaller DIE of Alder Lake, which does not have high-efficiency cores so performance cores only) , both models will have 4 cores and 8 threads of high performance "Golden Cove," but they will neither have nor need any high-efficiency core. They will also have 12MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 60W, which will result in extremely low power consumption, making them ideal for mid-range PCs.

In terms of frequencies, the i3-12300 will have a single-core boost of 4.4GHz and a multi-core boost of 4.2GHz, while the i3-12100 will have a single-core boost of 4.3GHz and a multi-core boost of 4.2GHz, respectively. Core speed is 4.1GHz, which is 100MHz slower than its older brother in both frequencies.

The i3-12300 achieves 665cb in the single-core test and 3318cb in the multi-core test in Cinebench R20, while the i3-12100 achieves 649cb in the single-core test and 3248cb in the multi-core test. For comparison, the AMD Ryzen 3 5300G achieves 537cb in the single-core test and 2766cb in the multi-core test according to Tom's Hardware, indicating a significant performance difference between these Core i3s and AMD's latest Ryzen 3. Furthermore, single-core performance even outperforms powerful processors such as the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X, ensuring that performance in most applications requiring a small number of threads will be the same or even better on these Core i3s than on their larger counterparts.

Everything points to these Core i3 processors combined with a B660 motherboard being the best value for money in terms of price-performance in 2022, though we will have to wait until the B660 motherboard's launch at the end of January to confirm this conclusion.
