New Polaris 30 Respin at 12nm to be released? (RadeonRX 590 or 680?)

A topic of discussion for a while now already is that AMD would be refreshing Polaris, again. Currently, there is chatter on the web that AMD would soon release Polaris 30, that 3 being the 3rd iteration of Polaris. The new updated GPU would be fabbed at a 12nm FinFET LPP+ and is rumored to bring in another 15% performance, albeit we find this highly speculative.

If AMD does fab 12nm FinFET Polaris GPUs, clocks could once again be boosted a notch and in theory, energy consumption could drop. Albeit when you jack up the GPUs as much as is happening these days, we expect a TDP increase really.

If all this is true, it would be the same technology that has been there ever since the first 16nm iteration. By now, we figure most people will have gotten a Polaris GPU already if they wanted to, I do not see them upgrading. I have no idea how legit this rumor is. AMD could also do this silently and simply replace the OEM products.

The discussion heated up as there is now a new Polaris PCI ID added to the AMD Linux graphics driver, 0x6FDF, and that Hardware ID is not used or referenced anywhere just yet. The further die-shrink was never mentioned on any roadmaps, then again in an effort to create a bit more competition, we would find the move to make sense. We'll know soon enough I guess.
