New Intel Coffee Lake Processor Prices Pop Up at US Webshops
We've discussed the new batch of Coffee Lake processors a bunch of times already including some Canadian etailer leaks, however, more prices (USA) have been showing up at retailers, these include the core i3-8300 but now also list Pentium Gold processors. All new models are non tweakable ones (not K models).
The Core i3-8300 will be clocked a notch faster than the current Core i3-8100 and has a bit more l3-cache comparable to the Core i3-8350K. TheCore i5-8500 and i5-8600 are clocked a little bit faster than the i5-8400 released last year. The Core i3 8300 model has four cores but lacks hyper-threading, it has a good base clock of 3.7 GHz though, and 9MB-L3 cache. This might become a sweet-spot CPU for many as the price will hover in the 139 EUR/169 USD marker. As it seems, Intel will also launch a Core i5-8600 non-K model for a slightly lower price. Intel Core i3 8300, Core i5 8500 and 8600 now have been listed at the following average price:
- Core i5 8300 - 135 USD
- Core i5 8500 - 205 USD
- Core i6 8600 - 225 USD
Interesting times, the USD to EURO prices would be fairly direct conversions, VAT and Sales taxes might differ, and thus also the end sales price. The retailers also sho new dual-core Pentium Gold (Hyper-threading) and Celeron (Not hyperthreading) models. The introduction of the new processors is likely streamlined with cheaper motherboards (B360 or H370 chipset). An H310 platform is also expected for entry-level SKUs. When you place everything into a table (prices are roughly the etailer list prices so they do have a bit of variation), things look like this.

Actually the most intriguing new processor listed is the 8500 at $205. With a cheaper MOBO this paired with the 1060 (if you can find one around MSRP) would make a phenomenal budget system that would crush 1920x1080.

are we being forced to the gtx 1060 because it sucks at mining?
it's time again to do my graduation presents and i'd really rather do the rx580/freesync monitor. but right now rx 580s are going for way more than the gtx 1060.
into the realm of "get a freaking job and buy your own" instead of "attaboy".

i see your reasoning and i would tend to agree.
but that's also mainly for high twitch FPS games/ultimate performance.
for people who play MOBA's and RTS games they do not need to overclock, i dare say (the mass market) that they won't.
which gets back to the Ryzen 7 saving a minimum of $80 with one fewer part to buy.
the Intel K series is going to be the esports cpu regardless.
Haha I have a rig dedicated to nothing but gaming based on Ryzen and if I were to go back in time to make the choice again, I would. After all, I'm not a competitive gamer and I'm perfectly content with 60FPS. I've also built a gaming PC for someone else based on Ryzen. That being said, I'm certainly not one to discourage people from getting a Ryzen for gaming, but, the 8600K is objectively a better gamer's CPU vs a Ryzen 7. Whether or not it is necessary is a whole other story, but, both CPUs are arguably unnecessary.
