New AMD roadmap shows Vega and Navi Architectures
While the Polaris GPU architecture is to be released this year, two new architecture (or product series) code-names have surfaced in a roadmap shown in an AMD presentation, Vega and Navi.
It seems that after Polaris in 2017 VEGA will make an appearance, the name is tagged with HBM2 meaning that HBM2 likely will not make it onto Polaris. Vega is the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, the fifth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere, after Arcturus. Next in line in the 2018 timeframe we see Navi with the two keywords being scalability and Nextgen memory.
The slide is plotted in years/time against perf per watt, so you will notice that the perf/watt ratio almost makes a 2x step every new release. It will be interesting to see how ling AMD stays at 15nm, 7nm is obviously the next step in fabbing, that technology is due for release in 2019/2020.

I think within 3yrs the console landscape will look a bit different. Next-gen...hmm. If MS have their way there is no next-gen, just incremental upgrades (or move back to PC). This leaves Sony and Nintendo...
Nintendo NX is their next system for the next 5yrs. This only then leaves Sony PS5.
Nvidia would love to get back into the console market, but, as the head company themselves...
In 3 years you will probably just have Sony as the solo player. I can see the PS5 and the next Nintendo console going at it, but Nintendo's profile has always been less "antagonistic". I can't see Sony not attempting to go for a PS5, after all the success they have had. They will probably keep it an AMD x86/GCN affair, and have immediate backwards compatibility with the PS4, and developers won't need to have a retooling for everything again. I can see it having 8-16 Zen cores, 16GB of HBM1/2, and probably a 4096/3072 GCN core design. It will be relatively cheap to make, and at the door of a 10nm node that would make it even cheaper, while making it at least 3-4 times more powerful than the current generation, while maintaining the same tools and the backwards compatibility. Microsoft has been out of this game since the moment Nadella became CEO.

sony will make another ps# system and MS idea of UPGRADED able consoles wont happen, at that point it might as well be pc,
Every console to ever have UPGRADE failed cause it either didnt sell or cause then they devs will would have to develop for lowest denominator spec wise to keep people happy, and if console have proven anything over the years it is devs dont like developing for PC cause it has to many config and no 1 system is the same, just look at stat pc game that where ported from consoles.
I see Cloud consoles/gaming take over before this, but that wont happen till internet speeds are 100mbit for everyone at reasonable price with backbone that could handle it without throttling.. which is not even close to be reality yet, backbone maybe? but not reasonable prices.
They much rather develop for 1 spec that is same for all. which why consoles are weere majority of all games are made.
I am curious to what amd has up there selves, but more i want to see were there going with the star names theme for PR, are they trying to say the gap between the card are gona be as far as the gaps between the stars?? haha

It will not be PC. It will be PC hardware running the Xbox stack. It will be more like a Steambox, just locked down and in every single Windows 10 PC sold.
