Support for Smart Access Memory is AMD's moniker for Resizable Bar technology, is one of the most notable features of AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, and we have good news for Radeon RX 5000 users who wanted to give it a try: Radeon RX 5000 users may now do so.

AMD implemented Smart Access Memory support on the Radeon RX 5000 with the release of the new Adrenalin 2020 21.9.1 drivers, allowing for improved performance on systems and games that support it.

Recall that in order to use Smart Access Memory, we must have a compatible motherboard and CPU, as well as an updated motherboard BIOS (and in certain cases, an updated graphics card BIOS), which means that a number of prerequisites must be met before we can use the technology. Even so, it is worthwhile because the performance gains achieved through the use of this technology in supported games are typically in the range of 6 percent and, in rare situations, can surpass 10 percent, making it a great return on the investment made in enabling this technology.

The drivers also include full support for Windows 11, as well as support for a new automatic overclocking tool that we will discuss in further detail in the following note, so be sure to check back for more information on that tool. They also include optimizations for Deathloop and the COD: Vanguard beta, which we recommend installing if you have an AMD graphics card, as they will reap a variety of benefits from using the new drivers.
