The Pentonic 2000 is a 7 nm (N7) system-on-a-chip manufactured by TSMC from the Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek, which is specially designed for use in smart TVs and supports up to 8K at 120 Hz. In addition to the Wi-Fi 6E it offers VCC and UFS 3.1.

As the first smart TV chip to be equipped with an 8K 120Hz MEMC engine, it is also the most powerful. "8K AI-Super Quality technology" by MediaTek APU of AI processor is supported, and it can do image correction in real time while also upscaling low-resolution video to the native resolution of its display. The integrated 8K MEMC engine, which can output up to 120 images per second with 7,680 × 4,320 pixels using AI support, is one of the first system-on-a-chip to master the free video compression AOMedia Video 1 ( AV1 ) also the decoding of VVC ( Versatile Video Coding ) alias H.266.

Furthermore, MediaTek's "Intelligent View technology" allows for the display of several picture-in-picture (PiP) or picture-by-picture (PbP) panels on a single device. When used in conjunction with a large 8K display, it is capable of displaying display walls from a variety of different media sources.

As an added bonus, it includes a built-in CPU and GPU that the company claims to be among the fastest in its industry, as well as an ultra-wide memory bus and high-speed UFS 3.1 storage. The "Pentonic 2000" will be available in November. It is possible to create high-speed wireless network connections using the Wi-Fi 6E / 5G modem from MediaTek, which allows for the simultaneous viewing of 8K streaming video and numerous streaming sources.

In addition, it is the first commercial 8K chip to support the H.266 codec, making it a first in the industry. Several of Dolby's most recent imaging and audio technologies, such as Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, can be utilized in this scheme. It also supports global television broadcast standards, such as AV1 for streaming services and the most recent ATSC 3.0 standard for broadcast television.
