NETGEAR launches fast Desktop Network Attached Storage Device

NETGEAR launches fast Desktop Network Attached Storage Device

NETGEARannounced ReadyNAS 716 (RN716X). A 10GE-ready addition to the award-winning ReadyNAS product family, ReadyNAS 716 is the world's fastest desktop network attached storage (NAS) device. With a maximum capacity of 24 TB (up to 84 TB with expansion chassis), the six-bay ReadyNAS 716 enables easy storage and extreme throughput for businesses and campus environments supporting up to 500 concurrent users. Providing up to 10GE throughput, ReadyNAS 716 is also the only NAS on the market today capable of simultaneously streaming multiple large uncompressed Blu-ray files.

Earlier this spring, NETGEAR introduced a new portfolio of ReadyNAS devices, running on the revolutionary ReadyNAS operating system (OS), that delivers high value, high performance storage with enterprise-class features. The custom-built ReadyNAS OS not only protects stored data with X-RAID2 automatic expansion, but also features continuous data protection through unlimited snapshots, easy disaster recovery with cloud-managed replication, and native threat protection with real-time anti-virus. Each NAS device was created with ease-of-use in mind, so business users can confidently centralize, share, and back up all the data on their network.

Every member of the award-winning ReadyNAS product family combines industry-first innovations with unmatched ease-of-use. With the launch of ReadyNAS 716, NETGEAR once again takes features and capabilities previously available only from expensive, large-enterprise vendors and dramatically simplifies deployment and manageability to provide businesses with affordable, dynamic, and reliable storage. With a 10GE line rate on the two built-in 10GBASE-T ports, this newest member of the NAS portfolio also showcases the latest in performance capability related to simultaneous HD video streams.

"When performance matters and you need storage made easy, there's no better product on the market than the new ReadyNAS 716," said Matt Pahnke, senior product marketing manager for NETGEAR Storage. "We designed ReadyNAS 716 to be the world's fastest desktop NAS, complete with unmatched data protection features and the ability to stream multiple HD 4K videos simultaneously. So whether you're streaming a business presentation to clients around the globe or a lecture across a college campus, the ReadyNAS 716 is the only NAS product that has you covered."

ReadyNAS 716 offers the highest performance in the desktop category with 16 GB ECC memory - more than any desktop NAS on the market - and features cutting-edge ReadyCLOUD technology for cloud-based set-up, provisioning, and full file management from any browser. What's more, the world's fastest NAS supports 10GE infrastructures, making it ideal for streaming multiple HD videos concurrently to different media clients - whether it's 85 streams for a college seminar, 25 streams to a kindergarten class, or three uncompressed Blu-ray files.

"Our goal is to provide our customers with an affordable, high performance, easy-to-use storage solution," said Moisés Izquierdo Blasco, a systems engineer with Ingeniería Informática Interactiva, S.L., headquartered in Barcelona, Spain. "NETGEAR ReadyNAS 716 not only delivers fast, reliable storage, but also makes it easy to stream multiple simultaneous HD video files from everywhere. With ReadyNAS, our customers get a compelling experience without having to invest a ton of money on complex solutions, and can rest easy knowing they have continuous data protection."

ReadyNAS Family Growing by Leaps and Bounds
With the addition of the RN716 model, NETGEAR now has seven innovative product lines in the ReadyNAS family all running on the revolutionary ReadyNAS OS:

  • The ReadyNAS 700 Series (RN716X) is designed for campus and high performance business environments supporting up to 500 concurrent users. It is a six-bay device and is only offered diskless.
  • The ReadyNAS 500 Series (RN516XX) is designed for small to medium-sized business networks supporting up to 250 concurrent users. It is a six-bay device offered as either diskless or populated with drives.
  • The ReadyNAS 300 Series (RN312XX, RN314XX, RN316XX) is optimized for small business networks and remote or branch office needs. It offers two-bay, four-bay, and six-bay desktop models that are either diskless or populated with drives.
  • The entry level ReadyNAS 100 Series (RN102XX, RN104XX) is designed for home use. It comes in two-bay and four-bay desktop models that are offered as either diskless or populated with drives.

In the summer, NETGEAR launched three new ReadyNAS devices for easy rack-mounted deployment, all of which are offered as either diskless or populated with drives:

  • The 12-bay ReadyNAS 4220 is designed for high performance business environments supporting 50 to 500 concurrent users.
  • The 12-bay ReadyNAS 3220 is ideal for supporting 26 to 250 concurrent users.
  • The four-bay ReadyNAS 2120 is perfect for small office environments from five to 25 simultaneous users.

Like other members of the ReadyNAS family, ReadyNAS 716 has a simple-to-use interface. It supports SATA (up to 4 TB) and SSD drives, and includes three eSATA expansion ports for scaling capacity as the storage needs of a business grows (up to 84TB). Additional advanced capabilities featured on the NETGEAR ReadyNAS 716 include:

  • Two built-in 10GBASE-T ports
  • VPN quality remote data transfer and management
  • Encrypted remote access
  • Thin or thick provisioned LUNs
  • ReadyDROP file synchronization
  • ReadyDLNA mobile clients for remote media streaming

Pankhe added: "At NETGEAR, we strive to meet our customers' needs and that means expanding opportunities for what they can do with their NAS devices to create the best user experience possible. With this in mind, the latest addition to the ReadyNAS family reinforces our commitment to delivering only the most secure, fastest, and innovative storage solutions. Only ReadyNAS combines data protection and performance into one product. That's the bottom line."

Pricing and Availability
NETGEAR ReadyNAS 716 is now available worldwide through authorized NETGEAR PowerSHIFT partners and authorized resellers and DMR channels. The MSRP in the U.S. is $4,500, although pricing for the end customer may vary depending on the reseller.
