NEC EA244UHD 23.8

NEC announced the release of a new 23.8" sized screen that sits in their EA series. Under SKU code EA244UHD the product offers a 4k 3840 x 2160 resolution and an AH-IPS panel. The screen looks to be using a very similar panel to the Dell UP2414Q which is already available. It offers a wide colour gamut with 99.3% Adobe RGB coverage, 94.8% NTSC and 100% sRGB thanks to it's GB-r-LED backlight system.

In other specs it also offers a 6ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness and 178/178 viewing angles. The panel offers a 1.07b colour depth with a 4.3 trillion colour palette.

  • 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) offers a massive amount desktop space, four times full HD resolution
  • LED backlight technology provides for industry-leading low power consumption and less hazardous materials
  • Fully adjustable quick-release stand, including height-adjust (130mm), pivot, tilt and swivel capabilities, adds flexibility and comfort to your viewing preferences
  • Full connectivity, including DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI-D inputs
  • Touch-sensitive OSD controls are integrated into the bezel, making display adjustments easier than ever
  • Human sensor and ambient light sensor automatically detect your work conditions to determine the proper display brightness, thereby conserving power
  • ECO Mode allows for up to 56% more power conservation (vs. typical power settings), reducing your energy costs

There are DisplayPort (x2), HDMI, HDMI/MHL, DVI-D Single Link (x2) video connections available and also a USB 3.0 hub (1 up/ 3 down). The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments. There is Picture By Picture provided as well, integrated speakers, an ambient light sensor, human motion sensor, touch sensitive OSD control buttons.

The screen is listed on NEC's US website at a retail price of $1349 USD, and on the UK site at £1295 GBP (inc VAT).

I have seen a few 4K Monitors mostly 28inch + and the Scaling with Windows sucks so how will it work at 23-24 inches seems kinda crazy and broken to me.

Can't you adjust windows ICON scaling for 200%?

Why they make so ugly monitors? They manage to make nice performance but they fail miserably in design. I see many monitors even if they sell as premium they look terrible like its 20 years old or smth. Really ugly.

Scaling works pretty much fine in most apps that I tried. Also in this case you're going for 200% scaling, so even legacy apps will look ok as you'd get each pixel upscaled to 2x2 square, so there will be no blur.

Actually, the problem is not windows but only some particulary old appliccations who have not been updated and dont have an UI done for thoses resolution / dont scale well. ( winzip, winrar, well this type of thing .)

Professionally wise it is not much a problem as software are easely scalable and with modifiable CUI ( Custom User Interface for CAD etc )..

Now i fear a little beat what you gain on place is taked back by the scaling needed on a 24" monitor size. But maybe it look really good in term of sharpness.

But yes they will need some time for see everyone really rethink a bit their softwares UI for 4K resolution.
