NAND flash pricing stabilizing

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 07/05/2012 10:45 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)
In case you didn't notice, SSDs have gotten much cheaper. DigiTimes heard pricing of NAND flash memory is stabilizing, after having continually fallen for over six months. Last month prices fell by 3-5 percent.
This is because makers of NAND flash have begun lowering output to reduce global supply and demand is expected to increase in the second half of 2012, the sources said.

Global sales of smartphones, tablet PCs and ultrabooks are expected to grow in the second half of 2012, thereby increasing demand for NAND flash used in SSDs and eMMC, the sources indicated. In addition, Intel's Ivy Bridge platform is expected to increase global penetration of USB 3.0 flash drives, especially 16GB models, and in turn demand for large-capacity NAND flash chips, the sources noted. The global penetration of USB 3.0 flash drives will reach an estimated 20% at the end of 2012, the sources estimated.
