MSI Teases Gaming Z97 motherboard

MSI Teases Gaming Z97 motherboard

MSI is teasing a little with their upcoming Gaming Z97 motherboards, these will be released in a Gaming 7, 5 and 3 series. The Intel Z97 Express chipset based motherboards have socket LGA1150 and support Haswell processors including the new refresh processors. MSI applies their popular red and black Dragon theme again.

The Z97 OC series motherboards will feature V-Check Points 2 panel where you can check out voltaged with a DDM and yeah, we also see other OC features like a DEBUG LED, Power On/OFF, Reset and OC configuration switches/buttons.

As you guys have learned by now, the Intel Z97 Express chipset will come with a PCIe M.2 interface, extra USB / SATA ports and a few subtle changes. That PCIe M.2 interface however is very interesting as it will speed up the SATA interface tremendously and thus higher performance SSDs finally will be free from the SATA3 interface bottleneck.

Sata3 is 6 Gbps, The M.2 interface can fo 10Gbps, meaning that is a theorethical 1250 MB/sec, minus overhead of course.

That IO shield is really gonna boost the sales.

I mean.. who isn't looking at the back of the PC case all day long?

No need to post further. This sums it up - when a new chipset is released and the highlight is in small letters "supports the M.2" interface and a huge picture of a hot new rear I/O shield no one including the user sees, you know the chipset is a big zzzzzzz.

BLEH!

Is this compatible with the existing Haswell CPUs?
