MSI Releases GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Armor OC and GDDR5X Memory

Following the other AIBs MSI now as well released a GDDR5X version of the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Armor OC. These have been fitted with GDDR5X and GP104 GPU, and that's the one used on the GTX 1080.

Don't get too excited though ass that GP104 used might have a partial defect, reject or are surplus chips, they then disable half of the cores and leave the working ones active. It's interesting though as the entire flash BIOS discussion would open up again, what if you inject an illegal firmware in there and would it be possible to get a fully working GP104 GPU? A fully enabled GPU has 2560 shader cores, where the GTX 1060 has 1280, exactly half of them. This all also explains how NVIDIA can tie GDDR5X memory to the GPU opposed to regular GDDR5. The MSI Armor OC releases the product with a 1544 MHz base clock, 1759 MHz on the Boost frequency, (reference = 1506/1709 MHz). This factory-overclock is identical to the one the company's original GP106-based Armor OCV1 card ships with. The memory remains at a reference 8.00 GHz as well.

The new model would be priced in the 299 USD bracket.
